McGrew Real Estate Aids in the Preservation of the St. Luke AME Church

McGrew Real Estate is committed to the preservation of the St. Luke AME Church, a historic institution in East Lawrence that stands as a symbol of strength and perseverance in our community.

McGrew is proud to donate $1,000 towards the continuation of construction projects, including the restoration of the ornate stained glass windows, originally built and installed in 1910. These funds are in addition to a previous donation made by the real estate agency this summer.

Built in 1910, the St. Luke AME Church is an iconic piece of history that has been a staple in the Lawrence community for 110 years. St. Luke was notably an influence for internationally renowned poet and leader of the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes.

According to the Lawrence Preservation Alliance:

Two major grants have ensured that the church’s two large stained glass windows, and the walls in which they sit, will be restored this fall. The congregation is working to fund completion of the accessibility project. But there is still more work to be done.

Lawrence Preservation Alliance is leading an effort to gather community help to contribute toward work on other exterior walls and windows in critical need of repair. To start, LPA is donating all membership funds we receive through the end of 2020 to the rehab effort at St. Luke AME.
